There are literally 100's of direct sales opportunities out there. It's not just Tupperware®, anymore! These tips will aid anyone, when choosing the right direct company.

The direct sales business has grown tremendously, in recent years. New companies are opening their doors, on a regular basis. What was once a primarily female dominated industry now attracts its fair share of male consultants, as well. Because of this overwhelming growth, choosing the right direct sales company can seem somewhat daunting. The following tips should prove helpful.

Consider the Recommendations of the Direct Selling Association

The Direct Selling Association, or DSA, was founded in 1910. It is the national trade association for those who sell their product lines directly to the consumer. Originally referred to as the Agents Credit Association, this organization now represents more than 200 companies. These same companies must abide by the DSA's Code of Ethics. Well-known members include: Avon Products, Discovery Toys, Homemade Gourmet and Shaklee Corporation.

Browsing the DSA member list is an excellent way to locate up and coming companies that are typically working with a smaller pool of direct sales consultants. Many successful direct sales consultants believe that the fewer active consultants, the better the opportunity for team building.

Match Direct Sales Opportunities with Current Interests

It is important to choose a direct sales opportunity that is a good match with current interests or hobbies. It is much easier to promote a product line and/or home business when enthused about the subject.

For example, a candle company is a wise choice for someone who always burns candles and a scrapbook-related direct sales company is the perfect match for someone who enjoys that particular hobby. Besides profit from sales, these consultants will also receive substantial discounts on all personal purchases.

Direct Sales Company Quotas

Some companies have quotas, some do not. This is something to consider, especially when the business will be worked on a very part-time basis. Some quotas are based on overall monthly sales. Other quotas involve a set number of scheduled home events. In some cases, these quotas are imposed on a quarterly basis.

Recruiting Additional Direct Sales Consultants

Many companies encourage consultants to actively build a team. This team, referred to as a downline, provides an additional income stream for the team leader. Commissions are typically paid 5 to 10 levels deep at the rate of 2.5 to 10% on all retail purchases.

These are some of the most important factors to consider when contemplating a home business. Direct sales isn't for everyone, but it can be a very rewarding venture for those who love interacting with people and the challenge of a sale.
